The Radiology department of Lauderdale Community Hospital offers many different exams in a variety of modalities to the residents of Lauderdale and the surrounding counties:
 
Diagnostic Radiography
 
Hours of Operation:
24 hours a day / 7 days a week. 
Appointment Required: No appointment is necessary, but it is best to come during normal operating hours (7am-5pm) for non-emergent exams.
Written Doctor’s Order Required: Yes
Exams offered: Diagnostic x-rays of the entire body. Examples: Chest, Abdomen, Hips, extremities, etc.
Preparation for Exam: None
 
 
 
Computed Tomography (better known as “CT” or “Cat Scan”)
 
Hours of Operation:
7:30AM - 3:30PM, Monday – Friday.
After hours on call for Emergency Room.
Appointment Required: Yes
Written Doctor’s Order Required: Yes
Exams offered: Routine CT’s of the Head, Neck, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis and Extremities. CTA Chest, CTA Abdomen, Kidney Stone Protocol, Appendix Protocol, High Resolution Chest 
Preparation for Exam: There is a preparation required for most CT’s that will be explained to you by your doctor’s office when your appointment is scheduled. We will also call you the day before the test. These exams often require the use of a contrast media to be injected through an IV.


 
Ultrasound (Sonongraphy)
 
Hours of Operation:
7:00AM - 3:00PM, Monday – Friday.
After hours on call for Emergency Room.
Appointment Required: Yes
Written Doctor’s Order Required: Yes
Exams offered: Abdomen Complete, Liver/Gallbladder, Aorta, Pelvic, Venous Doppler, Arterial Doppler, Carotid Doppler, Testicular, Renal, Retroperitoneal, Breast, Echocardiography. 
Preparation for Exam: There is often a preparation required for most Ultrasounds that will be explained to you by your doctor’s office when your appointment is scheduled. We will also call the day before your appointment. Ultrasound does not use radiation, but instead sound waves. These exams are preformed by scanning a microphone like instrument (probe) over the skin at the area of concern. A gel is placed on the skin to help improve the probe to skin contact making the image better.


Nuclear Medicine
 
Hours of Operation:
8:00AM - 4:00PM, Monday – Friday.
Appointment Required: Yes
Written Doctor’s Order Required: Yes
Exams offered: Whole Body Bone Scan, 3 Phase Bone Scan, Hida Scan, Liver/Spleen Scan, Gastric Emptying Scan, VQ Scan, and Thyroid Uptake/Scan
Preparation for Exam: There is often a preparation required for most Nuclear Medicine test that will be explained to you by your doctor’s office when the appointment is scheduled. Nuclear Medicine exams require a small dose of a radioactive isotope to be swallowed, inhaled or injected through an IV.
 
 
 
Mammography
 
Hours of Operation:
9:00AM - 5:00PM, Monday – Friday.
Appointment Required: Yes
Written Doctor’s Order Required: Yearly routine screening mammograms being      performed on patients with no problems, do not require a doctor’s order. Patient’s experiencing anything abnormal, need to see their doctor for a physical exam. Any test he orders to further exam the problem will need to be scheduled by the doctor’s office and will require a written order from the doctor.
Exams offered:   Screening Mammography, Diagnostic Mammography. Exams are done by a dedicated Mammography Technologist, read by a Radiologist and run through a CAD (Computer Aided Detection) system for detection of things not able to be seen by the naked eye.
Preparation for Exam: Do not use deodorants or powders before a mammogram. These products can interfere with obtaining quality images.
 
 
 
 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (better known as “MRI”)
 
Hours of Operation:
7:00AM - 3:00PM, Monday – Thursday.
Appointment Required: Yes
Written Doctor’s Order Required: Yes
Exams offered: Head, Neck, Shoulders, Elbows, Wrist, Hands, Cervical Spine, Thoracic Spine, Lumbar Spine, Pelvis, Hips, Knees, Ankles, Feet, Long bones of the extremities.
Preparation for Exam: There is no prep for the MRI’s performed at this facility.
